Boxing

Richard Steele was an underserved at-risk, youth. Growing up in inner city Los Angeles, he walked the fine line of mischief and misbehavior. His mother didn’t know what to do with him. Then, in the U.S. Marine Corps, he found boxing. In 1963, Richard became “All Marine Corps Champion” and competed in the 1964 Olympic Trials. As a young boxer, Richard “The Man of” Steele learned how to train hard, think strategically, and dedicate himself to his goals. Richard Steele has made it his business to serve at-risk youth, because he was an at-risk youth.

Education

Once Richard realized that he could use dedication and goal setting to achieve greatness in boxing, he then applied those same standards to achieve in education.  Richard went back to school with a goal to earn his high school diploma, as an young adult. With hard work and determination, he achieved that goal.

Leadership in the Ring

Boxing brought Richard to the Las Vegas community, which he has called home for thirty years. Richard Steele has refereed over 170 world title bouts and he is arguably the world’s most famous and finest boxing referee. Richard Steele has refereed some of the greatest bouts in history. He’s been the leader in the ring with Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar de la Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Mike Tyson. He was inducted in the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 2000.
